Search Engine Marketing: December 2008 Archives

What Role Will Search Marketing Play in 2009?

|

Sunrise Photo.jpgAs you stand on the threshold of a new year, do you ever wonder what the future holds for search engine marketing? If so, you'll want to check out Aaron Goldman's 2009 Predictions for Search Marketing at Find Resolution (a blog which bills itself as "A Community Space for All Things Query Marketing").

Even the very name Find Resolution is appropriate this time of year, hinting at the good intentions we have at the start of a new year, our hopes for making our lives better, and our dreams for creating a more profitable business. When plans such as these come on the cusp of a new year, we typically call them New Year's resolutions.

Of course, we know this isn't precisely the intended meaning of the word resolution in the above blog title. Yet, if we're willing to broaden our perspective a bit, we can apply the powerful insights gleaned from the "find resolution" concept to our vision, mission, and intention to make our businesses successful in the coming year.

Finding resolution means resolving the challenges, problems, and issues we face as businesspeople.  It's certainly more than mere wishful thinking - more than simply listing the goals we'd like to accomplish and hoping we'll have the determination to actually follow through. It's actively grabbing hold of a vision for our company's future...creatively brainstorming new ideas...tenaciously researching, planning, and implementing the strategies that can help move our businesses forward - not just during the early days and weeks of January, but throughout the new year. There's little question that, at year's end, these principles hold a special significance for us as entrepreneurs.

If you'd like to get a head start on the marketing strategies that can help ensure your company's success in the new year, read the projected search engine marketing happenings that are on the horizon for 2009 by visiting the above link.

Here's one of Goldman's 10 predictions for search marketing in the coming year:

Mobile will become a staple of search marketing programs...We still have a ways to go to catch up with mobile usage (and handset utility) of foreign countries but there is now a meaningful audience for marketers to connect with in the mobile environment.

Check out the above post for more on this prediction and to read the other nine.

To gain even further insight into the expected uses and value of search to the future of marketing and prepare your business for some of the major changes that will likely occur in the coming year, check out the following post by David Berkowitz at Search Insider: Search Trends to Watch in 2009. This post will help you avoid the pitfalls and maximize the advantages of expected search marketing trends in 2009.

Here's a sample of the marketing advice you'll find in the Berkowitz post:

First, any significant media campaign or offline event drives search volume, so marketers must capture that demand by integrating search with other media planning.

Berkowitz also offers the following intriguing bit of Web marketing wisdom:

...Marketers have to shift their mindset from optimizing their Web site to optimizing their Web presence.

Be sure to read the remainder of the post for a more thorough treatment of the above concepts, along with a few other equally enlightening ones.

These two informative posts should give you a great deal to think about as you

  • consider the future direction of search marketing
  • develop/update your company's unique goals and vision for the future
  • plan your marketing strategies for 2009
  • ponder the precise role that search engine marketing will play in your company's overall marketing plan

Here's hoping you'll make the most of search engine marketing strategies and enjoy increasing business success in 2009!
