If you want to see a great example of hyperlocal search, check out the Zvents hyperlocal search engine/website. Just plug in your zip code and you can find everything you want to know about events going on in your area, along with info on movies, venues, restaurants, and performers. I can find out when the next Batavia City Council Meeting takes place, details on everything from Lollapalooza to the Prairiefest Arts and Crafts Expo 2008.

For local businesses, charitable organizations, and even government agencies, hyperlocal search sites like Zvents are a superb advertising opportunity. People think local when they're shopping or going to the movies or planning a weekend. Google clearly has its limitations for hyperlocal search, and engines such as Zvents are coming in to fill the void. As more and more folks have internet access from their mobile phones, the popularity of hyperlocal sites will climb. To learn more about hyperlocal search -
