January is traditionally the month for getting in shape. After a good workout at the gym, you can tone up your search engine marketing muscles by lifting your efforts in three online activities that complement any solid search engine marketing program.
1. Start a business blog. Business blogs are like search engine optimization on steroids, only without the controversy and harmful side effects. A business blog attracts readers, sparks conversations with customers, builds your position as a thought leader, increases your search engine performance, and much more. In 2008, conversational marketing will become even more important than it was in 2007, so the time to launch your blog is now.
2. Join a social network. A while back I wrote about
the business value of LinkedIn, the leading social network for the global business community. Social networking can do heavy lifting for online marketing as well as social purposes. Through active participation in a social network, you attract new readers to your Web site, create new linking opportunities, and discover new resources and information for search engine marketing and search engine optimization.
3. Put out some press releases. If you're ready to flex your muscles in search marketing, online press releases will do the trick. They give your search engine performance an immediate boost, generate inbound links, drive traffic, and communicate your value to the marketplace. And online press releases are very affordable as well, making them an all around SEM performer.
2008 is upon us. From all the staff at Whoast, here's to a successful new year of online marketing!
